Contract Map
Every current-season contract, placed by the shape of the deal. Deals that sit near each other are broadly alike in the shape of the contract, mainly spend, quality, and age. Color and shape mark the archetype.
A way to see the market’s structure at a glance: where the expensive long-term stars cluster, where the young and bridge deals sit, and the broad band of veteran depth in between. Hover a point for the player and the deal.
A continuum, not sharp boxes
These are three broad regions on a smooth continuum, not hard categories. The archetypes describe where a deal roughly sits; the seams between them are soft, and a contract near a border is genuinely in-between.
Descriptive, not a verdict
The map does not rank contracts or call anyone overpaid. It just lays out the market's known structure (age, term, price, role). Whether a specific deal is a bargain lives on the player page, in the pay-delta.
- Young / bridge 258
- Veteran depth 335
- Star, long-term 196
Scatter plot of 789 current-season contracts across 3 archetypes: Young / bridge, 258 contracts; Veteran depth, 335 contracts; Star, long-term, 196 contracts. Horizontal axis runs from Less spend & quality to More spend & quality; vertical axis from Younger to Older. Use the search box to locate a specific player on the map.
Position is a 2-D projection (PCA) of each deal’s standardized features: the horizontal axis tracks overall spend and quality, the vertical axis tracks age. Hovering a point reveals its pay-delta (blue if the deal beats its cap hit, red-orange if it trails), the one place value is shown here.
